Not just for potty-training children!
From high-tech Japanese toilets to poo museums and cute excrement ice cream, Japan has long had a close affinity with poop. So when it comes to welcoming first-time toilet users to the fold, Japan knows how to put on a party, and that’s what’s happening right now, with the release of PooPaint toilet paper.
▼ “PooPaint: Colour in with your poo?!”
Designed to make potty training fun and entertaining, the PooPaint toilet paper looks so amusing that both kids and adults will want to give it a try. After all, it’s the first time we’ve heard of painting with poo not only being permitted, but encouraged, and who with a butt can resist that?
As the pictures show, all you need to create your very own poop masterpiece is the leftover excrement from your butthole and a sheet of this special toilet paper. With images containing dotted lines for you to fill in the blanks, it’s like completing a page of a colouring-in book — just aim and swipe up to see what you’ve made!
▼ Look mum! Look dad! I made a hamburger!
All jokes aside, potty training can be a difficult time for parents, as an independent study by Geometry Ogilvy Japan found that roughly 70 percent of parents felt overwhelmed by the task of toilet training their children. It’s also a difficult time for many children too, who may find the task boring, or become frustrated and then reluctant to use the bathroom, making the whole process even more difficult for everyone involved.
Japanese company Kleur, which has been operating the Lohas Kids Centre Clover childcare centre in Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward for 15 years, decided to help reduce the stress of toilet training by developing the PooPaint toilet paper. And judging by the reaction of the children at their centre, it looks like the new idea has got kids interested in making art with their poo.
▼ Let’s just hope none of these kids ask their parents to display their masterpieces on the fridge.
For those who want to test out the PooPaint toilet paper with their kids, the second floor Children’s Toilet at the Rise shopping centre at Futakotamagawa will have the rolls installed for visitors to try from 7 October to 6 November.
The PooPaint toilet paper can be purchased online for 500 yen (US$4.65). It makes a neat addition to the bathroom for both children and adults, and if you want to drill your kanji while dropping the kids off at the pool, there’s a toilet paper for that too.
