One Piece sets sail for global domination with a Nike collection inspired by the manga and anime’s superpowers.
One Piece fans will soon be able to slip into some awesome powers from the world of manga and anime, thanks to a new collection from Nike inspired by Devil Fruits.
The new Nike x One Piece collection includes three special-edition Air Max Plus designs, along with jerseys, T-shirts, caps and a vest, with details that conjure up the supernatural powers received by consuming a Devil Fruit. While the collection will eventually be available globally, the first port of call is Japan, where customers will have the chance to get their hands on the collection ahead of other countries, at a special three-day pop-up in Tokyo beginning on 4 September.
The journey starts with Devil Fruit swirls on the kicks, which are priced at 27,500 yen (US$173.10) in Japan, or US$210 in the U.S. as the global standard pricing.
▼ Nike Air Max Plus SP “Gomu Gomu”
This purple-and-green pair takes its inspiration from Gomu Gomu no Mi, the Devil Fruit associated with Monkey D. Luffy, which gives him rubber-like abilities.
Whisper “Gomu Gomu no…” while wearing these and you’ll instantly feel like you can call upon rubbery superpowers to get you out of any sticky scenarios.
▼ Nike Air Max Plus SP “Ope Ope”
Berry-red and green hues conjure up the powers of Ope Ope no Mi, the Devil Fruit that takes you to a “Room” where you can manipulate objects and people at will.
While these sneakers won’t actually grant you eternal youth, they’ll make you look and feel young every time you wear them.
▼ Nike Air Max Plus SP “Mera Mera”
The fiery orange, yellow and green colour scheme of the Mera Mera no Mi makes its presence felt on this bright pair of kicks, which will help to keep everyone out of your way whenever you step out in them.
The shoes are complemented by matching Air Max Plus jerseys and caps drawn from the Nike archive, which will be released alongside a range of exclusive apparel, so you can express your love for One Piece above the knee.
▼ Nike Solo Swoosh T-Shirt QS “Promise of Battle” (6,930 yen)
This eyecatching design, available in black and white colourways, features the pirate flag drawn by Monkey D. Luffy, with a large red Swoosh giving it a Nike twist.
▼ Nike Solo Swoosh T-Shirt QS “Gomu Gomu no Ono” (9,680 yen)
Luffy’s “Gomu Gomu no Ono” (“Gum-Gum Battle Axe”) gets the full manga treatment on this T-shirt, with a dramatic panel showing the stretchy pirate captain unleashing the powerful move across the back.
In addition to a couple of other yet-to-be-released T-shirt designs, there’s also an exclusive Nike Vest (45,100 yen).
The vest may be pretty hard to get in Japan, as it’s listed as a Tokyo pop-up exclusive and will be available at Dr. B’s Research Lab, a three-day-only pop-up store in Tokyo’s Harajuku district from 4 to 6 September. The pop-up will stock the collection as well as a special T-shirt exclusive to the event, but entry to the venue and purchases of eligible products will be limited to people who win the advance lottery (details at the bottom of this page), which is open for applications from 7:30 p.m. on 23 August until 11:59 p.m. on 26 August.
Fans in Japan who want to put their own spin on the collaboration can also head to the Nike By You customisation service at Nike Harajuku and Nike Umeda, where nine custom graphics will be available.
▼ Small graphics are 1,000 yen each, while large sizes are 1,200 yen.
The customisation experience will be available at Nike Harajuku from 4 to 11 September, with reservations accepted from 10 a.m.–9 p.m. on each day during this period, followed by Nike Umeda from 12 to 19 September, where reservations will be accepted from 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached.
▼ Celebrate your own personal connection to One Piece by mixing and matching the graphics to create a one-of-a-kind T-shirt that’s unique to you.
As the first port of call for the collection, it’s a very good time to be a One Piece fan in Japan. Following the pop-up store event, the Mera Mera range will be sold at Nike Umeda in Osaka on 12 September, ahead of the collection’s global release through Nike’s SNKRS app on 25 September. Other countries around the world will also have their own pop-up events from 12 September onwards, so check the SNKRS app for more details.
