One of the MacBook Pro desktop backgrounds featured on Apple’s website shows an astoundingly exquisite azure pond with bare trees coming out of the water, covered in snow. It will be one of the backgrounds included with OS X Mountain Lion, to be released this July. We’ve found out a bit about the photographer responsible for this particular work…
The photo in question won honorable mention in National Geographic’s 2011 photo contest, in the nature category, and was taken by Japanese photographer Kent Shiraishi. It was taken near Biei, a town in Japan’s northernmost island, Hokkaido, capturing the first snow at the end of October.
Shiraishi comments on his blog, “(At the unveiling of the MacBook Pro at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference), the announcer said, ‘And we are proud to show you some of the most beautiful screens we’ve ever seen…’, and pushed the power button. My photo shows up on this gigantic display… I was so moved that my work was received like this, it actually brought a tear to my eye.”
“This is a big beginning for me. But it’s only the beginning. I’ll work hard to show the world the beauty of Biei.”
