How many of you forgot to put your phone into manner mode (vibrate) when going into the office or a movie theatre only to have it ring and draw the angry scowl of everyone in the room? Of how about when you remember to turn on manner mode but when forget to turn it off you miss that important message you were waiting for?
Wouldn’t it be nice to have an app that automatically turns your manner mode on or off depending on where you are? Wouldn’t it be nice to have HexRinger?
HexRinger is a free app for the Android phone in which you can designate areas for your phone ringer to be turned on automatically upon entry. All you have to do is use the simple map interface and tap on hexagonal sectors to mark them as “manner-mode off zones.” Then in the words of the great Ron Popeil, you just set it and forget it.
Most smartphone users’ battery drainage senses are probably tingling at the thought of this app checking your location all day. The app counters this by using the phone’s cell and Wi-Fi signals to determine its location rather than GPS. You can also set the location checking intervals to up to 2 hours.
In a further attempt to save battery power there is a function still in beta that automatically turns the Wi-Fi connection on and off based on times you are expected to enter or leave a hexagon.
If you like me and tend to keep you phone in manner mode most of the time (people don’t seem to appreciate my Rebecca Black ringtone), you can invert the map so that your designated hexagons are when vibration turns off.
Overall, it’s a handy free app. If they can continue tweeking the battery saving functions it’ll be a must have for any android user.
