Emo kitty haz a sad, needs your hugs

Life, as they say, is not fair. Sometimes it rains on your birthday. Sometimes your boss yells at your for jamming the printer when you haven’t used it in weeks. Sometimes your boyfriend/girlfriend decides your clothes would look better strewn across the front lawn. And, sometimes, you just have a sad face.

We’re not sure which of these problems is afflicting this poor emo kitty from Japan, but he clearly needs a hug.

Meet Foochan. He is a cat. He has a sad face. The most adorable, heart-breaking, squealing-inducing sad face ever. Legend has it that if you listen to Joy Division while looking at pictures of Foochan, your heart will literally turn into tears and you will melt like an ice cream cone. But that’s just a legend…right?

But there’s more to Foochan’s story than that!

Simply put, you don’t get this sad of a sad face simply by being born. No, you have to wade through miles of poop-salad to get this sad of a sad face. How many miles? Well, we’re not sure, and Foochan can only speak in depressing song lyrics and meows, so it’s hard to ask him. But it turns out that this little cutie is a rescue!

According to Foochan’s owner, who habitually tweets pictures of this emo kitty, the adorable critter was discovered on the street. The couple who found Foochan took him in while waiting for the police to locate the owner. As the police couldn’t locate Foochan’s original home, ownership of the kitty was automatically transferred to his current humans.

Unfortunately, little is known about Foochan’s past. His current owner thinks the sad cat is about three years old and guesses that he might be a Persian. Beyond that, we know nothing. He might be a special forces cat trained to hunt down fascist mouse spies. Or he might be a European super model. He could even be a rock star from another dimension for all we know!

As you might expect, Japanese commenters fell in love with this sad cat. “Look at how resentful his eyes are!” wrote one amused commenter. “It looks like he’s saying, ‘I got bullied again,'” added another commenter. “How cute this animal is! It’s almost unbearable!” effused another.

Many commenters were absolutely charmed by Foochan, simply writing “Cuuuuuute!” Foochan also melts some icy hearts! “I don’t really like Persian cats, but this guy is really cute!” said another commenter.

Some commenters sympathized with Foochan, noting, “He’s got a naturally sad face. He’s got the face of a bullied kid.” Another commenter added, “I just want to tickle him and make him smile!”
