Being human, there are times when we lose control of ourselves in a state of extreme excitement. Some people scream, some dance, some cry, some may even wet their pants. On 12 October, Pokémon fans of the world rejoiced over the global release of two new titles, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. Popular seiyuu voice actor and otaku idol Shoko Nakagawa (or more affectionately known as Shokotan) expressed her ecstasy by going on a Pokémon binge, literally.
On the day of the release, unable to contain her anticipation, the multi-talented seiyuu began flooding her Twitter followers with Pokémon-related tweets in the early afternoon, ranting about how badly she wanted to play the game as soon as she could. At 6:40 p.m., she finally got her hands on the monster-catching game, revealing her excitement with an overwhelming wave of box-munching shots. Wait, that came out wrong…
▼ “Pokémon xy is now mineeeeeee it’s hereeeeeee finally hereeeeeee *licks*”
▼ “Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee”
▼ “Yummysoyummyyyyyyyy”
▼ “XY ehhhhkkswaaaaaaaaai”
▼ “Waiiiiiiaiiiiiii”
▼ “Yyyveltalllllllcan’twaitcan’twaitcan’twait”
▼ “Waaaaaaaaaaaaai”
Shokotan has been involved in several Pokémon productions, as a voice actress in numerous Pokémon movies since 2007, and also as a host on pocket monster-related television programs. She is also widely known to be an avid gamer and fan of manga, anime and the like, so while these intriguing images may be shocking to some of us, many of her fans seem to be quite used to her maniacal behavior, responding to the images with comments like:
“That’s Shokotan as usual.”
“She’s so cuuuuuuute!”
“I wish I was the box.”
“Shokotan always puts stuff she likes into her mouth.”
“She must have been over the moon. Forgive her.”
Shokotan-fan or not, we have to admit, we couldn’t take our eyes off those photos. That many game-chewing photos in one go can be a little hard to digest, but having a passion for something is a good thing, right?
