As we have come to learn over the years, Japan really loves its capsule toys and mobile phone accessories, and there’s always some cute new bit of plastic to attach to your person or use to brighten up your electronic devices. But for fans of the original Capcom fighter Street Fighter II (which is everyone, surely!?) we have some extra good news today.
A new series of models, showing the world warriors not in their typically magnificent fighting poses but on their knees and with their noses touching the ground, begging for forgiveness, is due to be released later this year.
Coming from Japan’s Zarigani Works in collaboration with Capcom, these keitai sutorappu (mobile phone charm/key rings) show the game’s original eight playable characters – namely Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Dhalsim, Guile, E. Honda, Blanka and Zangief – kowtowing and begging for forgiveness–a pose known in Japanese as dogeza (土下座) and considered to be the ultimate display of humility and apology.
The figures will be priced at 300 yen (US$2.94) each and will be available to buy from the second half of July this year.
They actually look kind of cool, especially Dhalsim’s amazingly long (10 cm, apparently) outstretched arms!
We’re not entirely sure about Blanka, though. We presume that’s supposed to be electricity fizzing away around his mutated green body, but it actually looks more like he’s infested with giant space maggots or something…
