If you’re not a fan of watery beer, then the new beer Kuos is definitely not for you. It’s about as watery as a beer could possibly get. In fact, although it’s a beer by name, Kuos is better described as a carbonated water with the pleasant bouquet of delicious ale.
On the other hand, if you’re looking to cut back on alcohol, carbs, and/or calories without loosing the beer drinking experience then Kuos may be perfect for you since it contains absolutely none of those things.
The components that make up Kuos are frighteningly simple: spring water, carbonic acid, beer essential oils, and caramel coloring. All other additives usually found in beer are non-existent such as acidity regulators.
This makes for an ideal drink for those who have to forego beer for health reasons but still want that nostalgic feeling. At the very least if you want to enjoy a few brews without getting a pot belly or waking up on the train tracks without a leg. Kuos can be a great supplement drink to pace yourself with.
Kuos Beer can be preordered online through websites like Yahoo! Japan Shopping or Rakuten. They’re sold in cases of 24 500mL bottles for 1,944 yen (US$19) which equates to about 79 yen ($0.76) a bottle and also a cheaper alternative to beer. Actually, at that price it’s kind of a cheaper alternative to water too.
Of course, having zero alcohol, zero calories, and zero carbohydrates is great but at the end of the day it has to taste good too. We’ll have to wait until 21 April when it goes on sale to know for sure. However, considering it is just beer flavored water we recommend going in with low expectations.
