Quick! What do Jackie Chan, Lee Min-ho and Akira Kamiya have in common? They have all played Ryo Saeba, the main character of action/comedy series City Hunter. What better way to celebrate the acclaimed manga by Tsukasa Hojo than a 30th Anniversary Edition of the City Hunter comic along with a brand new original animation DVD to go along with it?
Fans should break out their wallets, though, because it’s not going to be as easy as walking into the shop and buying the disc.
The 30th Anniversary of City Hunter is a great time to for fans. Not only is Tsukasa Hojo’s manga getting a special edition rerelease titled City Hunter XYZ, but those who buy all 12 volumes of the manga will receive a special bonus DVD with a brand new City Hunter anime titled Ryo’s Proposal.

City Hunter was originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump between 1985 and 1991. This “oldie but a goldie” followed the story of Ryo Saeba, a private investigator who tried to rid Tokyo of crime with the help of his friends (while always keeping an eye out for any hot babes along the way). The original anime began airing in 1987 and was followed by three more TV series, TV specials, OVAs, an animated movie, a live-action Hong Kong film and most recently a live-action Korean TV series.

On May 25, manga magazine Monthly Comic Zenon announced the exciting news. Starting July 18, City Hunter XYZ will have two volumes published every month. Each volume is more than 600 pages and is fully loaded with special drawings and interviews with creator Tsukasa Hojo. The special DVD, Ryo’s Proposal, will feature brand new animation and the original voice actors from the original run of the series.
