The residents of Kyushu don’t have to fight a titan, but they do have some giant obstacles to overcome.
Having been born in Oita Prefecture, Kyushu, manga artist and Attack on Titan creator Hajime Isayama recently uploaded a picture and a message of support on his personal blog for those affected by the recent earthquakes.
The artwork combines the power of his popular characters, Erin, Mikasa and Armin, with the lovable yurukyara mascot characters from Kumamoto and Oita, Kumamon and Mejiron.
▼ “Support Illustration for Victims in the Area”
Isayama, who lived in Oita Prefecture until he was 18, included the following message:
“To those who have been affected by the Kumamoto earthquake, I drew this illustration of support for you with both Kumamon and the yurukyara from Oita Prefecture, Mejiron. When I’ve experienced hard times, I remember the manga characters who fight with all they have even in harsh conditions, and I remember how they endured. So, I drew this illustration with those feelings. I’m wishing for a speedy recovery [in the area].”
There have been plenty of words of encouragement from all over Japan, but it’s nice to see that as everyday life returns to normal, people are still doing what they can to offer their support.
