”By the way…,” says Hajime Isayama before slipping in a twist as surprising as any in his giant-slaying manga/anime.

Though he’s now one of the biggest names in the business, Hajime Isayama, creator of hit manga Attack on Titan (and, by extension, its phenomenally successful associated anime), still updates his personal blog, hosted on Japan’s popular but humble Livedoor Blog network.

On December 31, he posted his last update for the year, running down his favorite movies he saw in 2018 (Bohemian Rhapsody, Hereditary, and Avengers: Infinity War were his top picks) and musing about what he’s looking forward to watching in 2019 (the U.S.-made Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Avengers: Endgame, and the final season of Game of Thrones).

Oh, and he also casually mentioned that he’s now married, as the 32-year-old Oita Prefecture native wrote:

“By the way, if I can take a moment to talk about myself, this year I got married. From now, with my significant other, I want to devote myself even more to being a manga creator!”

Isayama also took a moment to dispel rumors that he had wed one of his former assistants, a woman by the name of Arisa Yamamoto. “The woman I married is not her,” Isayama explained, though he offered no further details as to her identity or whether or not his wife works in the anime/manga industry.

“Anyway, I’ll be continuing to draw manga in 2019!” Isayama declared, as Attack on Titan moves ever closer to the ending scene he’s already envisioned.
