If you haven’t heard the background music enough playing Pokémon GO, here’s a new piano version for you!
It’s hard to believe that Pokémon has already been around for 20 years. While both the games and anime series have held a steady following throughout the years in Japan, its popularity in the rest of the world had waned since its initial boom in the late 1990s. However, the recent release of Pokémon GO has rekindled the flame and nostalgia of the series and has sucked in a whole new generation of fans.
With Pokémon currently on everyone’s brain, it only makes sense that there is a resurgence of fan-made tributes to the franchise. From fanart to piano arrangements of the game’s background music, like in the video below, there is much to be enjoyed thanks to Pokémon’s renewed popularity.
On July 29, user pianoYN uploaded the above video to Niconico Douga — a video sharing site similar to YouTube — of himself playing the Pokémon battle theme music on the piano, with an adorable plush Eevee sitting on the edge of the keys, looking straight at the camera. By August 1, only three days after the video was first uploaded, it had been viewed over 100,000 times.
Perhaps without the current Pokémon hysteria this video wouldn’t have received the attention that it has. With or without the attention, though, this guy’s talent is still impressive!
