Hair accessories add a dash of cute yet fierce culture to your outfit.
One of the most powerful supernatural forces to appear in Japanese folklore is the oni. Alternatively translated as demon or ogre, the horned creatures are known for their savage, bloodthirsty nature.
And yet, many would say there’s an unmistakable allure to a young women with a pair of oni horns sprouting from her forehead. It’s a feature seen on old-school anime star Lum of Urusei Yatsura fame, and the recent boom in popularity of monster girl artwork and anime series means that “oni maiden” is a more viable cosplay option than ever.
So here to help you complete the look is the Oni Musume (“Oni Girl”) line of hair accessories.
Made with metallic yarn, the Oni Musume work like any other hair clips. But once you’ve got them on, the effect is extremely unique.
A wide variety of color combinations are available, with each horn accented with flowers to show off your delicately demonic side.
Considering that oni legends have been around for hundreds of years, you probably won’t have to worry about these going completely out of style anytime soon. Each model is identically priced at 1,200 yen (US$11.40), and domestic orders can be placed here through the online shop of novelty goods retailer Village Vanguard.
