New project seeking production assistants.
Animation studio MAPPA (Yuri!!! on Ice, In This Corner of the World, Rage of Bahamut Genesis) posted on Tuesday a job listing that reveals that it is recruiting staff for a new work by anime director Kunihiko Ikuhara. The application period ends on September 15.
The company is offering a one-year contractual position (after a two-month trial period) for production assistants. The position is open to individuals without employment experience, but a driver’s license (for automatic transmission) is required. (If the employee drives under MAPPA’s own insurance policy, he or she has to be 21 years old or older.) The job pays 204,600 yen (about $1,900) a month, plus coverage of traveling expenses up to 30,000 yen (US$270) per month.
Ikuhara is perhaps best known as the director of the Revolutionary Girl Utena anime, a 1997 series he co-created with the Be-PaPas creative group, which consisted of him, writer Yoji Enokido, animator and character designer Hasegawa Shinya, manga creator Chiho Saito, and producer Yuichiro Oguro. Before Revolutionary Girl Utena, he worked at Toei Animation, where he directed Sailor Moon R, S and SuperS. After Revolutionary Girl Utena, he did not direct another anime series until Mawaru Penguindrum in 2011. His most recent directorial work is Yurikuma Arashi in 2015.
