Last month, Studio Ghibli announced it would be holding an exhibition dedicated to its famous producer and co-founder Toshio Suzuki.
The exhibition will be modelled on a previous display of works entitled “Studio Ghibli Toshio Suzuki Magic Words Exhibition“, which was held in Hiroshima the year before last and in Kanazawa and Suzuki’s hometown of Nagoya last year.
▼ 70-year-old Toshio Suzuki is a longtime collaborator and friend of legendary Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki
Given his close ties to Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, the upcoming exhibition in Tokyo will feature some new displays and exclusive merchandise featuring well-known characters from Ghibli’s animated films.
▼ Yubaba from Spirited Away is the poster girl for the exhibition.
▼ Some other familiar faces will also be making an appearance.
Suzuki is a keen calligrapher, and his beautiful brushstrokes are set to be showcased at the event, which is being called the “Toshio Suzuki and Studio Ghibli Exhibition”. As an author of several books, Suzuki’s sage wisdom has been attracting attention recently, so this new exhibition is said to be based around “the words of Toshio Suzuki”.
▼ Suzuki has been exploring the world of calligraphy in recent years, with his work even appearing on Japanese craft beer labels.
Exhibition organisers are offering a special present to those who pre-purchase tickets at E Plus, Animate, and Lawson and Mini Stop convenience stores in Japan from 10 February. While regular tickets can be pre-purchased for 1,200 yen (US$10.86) each, for an extra 100 yen customers with be able to receive a present-with-purchase, consisting of an exclusive notepad featuring the face of Yubaba from Spirited Away.
▼ Visitors who hand over present-with-purchase tickets will be able to receive this notepad at the venue.
