Event asks visitors to compose poems inspired by the beauty of thighs.
True artists are able to see and share the profound depths of their subject matter, and that’s a skill that Japanese photographer Yuria has. For years, Yuria has been documenting and sharing a love not just of the female form, but of female thighs in particular.
After an autumn-themed exhibition last fall, Yuria is now ready to return with an all-new batch of photographs, which will be unveiled at Chromatic Gallery, in Tokyo’s fashionable Harajuku district.

The latest iteration of Yuria’s artistic mission has been dubbed World of Thighs Photography 2019 in Harajuku, but it’s meant to carry significance beyond just a single year. The exhibition’s run will straddle the abdication of Japan’s Emperor Akihito and the ascension of Crown Prince Naruhito, and as such will be the final World of Thighs event of the Heisei imperial period, as well as the first of the upcoming Reiwa era, and will include newly taken “Reiwa thigh photos.”
▼ The Reiwa era continues to be unexpectedly sexy.
A field as specific as thigh photography likely attracts a loyal fan base, but even those who have been to every one of Yuria’s exhibitions so far will want to come out for the Harajuku event. More than 150 photographs will be on display, and all of them will be being shown to the public for the very first time.
Organizer promise that the new photos will help create “a deep, enjoyable art space” both for those well-versed in Yuria’s artwork and those experiencing it for the first time.
The event will also provide a creative outlet who feel their poetic juices start to flow as they gaze upon the shapely legs, as guests who compose a short verse, in the style of Japan’s traditional karuta poetry card game, for a specific photograph and post it to social media will receive a commemorative post card, and Yuria will also select the best poem to receive a special “Thigh Bag” full of prizes.
Each photograph on display will also be available for purchase for those who wish to be direct patrons of the thigh arts, and there will also be a gift shop selling coasters, plastic files, smartphone cases, notebooks, bookmarks, and T-shirts featuring Yuria’s photography
The World of Thighs Photography 2019 in Harajuku exhibition opens on April 27 and runs until May 6.
