The whole thing was captured on video by a bystander.
We all know what it’s like to feel frustrated when traffic delays keep us from doing all the important stuff we have to do, but while most of us just grin and bear it, others go straight to losing their cool.
That’s what happened in Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture, on the weekend, when a man was captured on video sawing off a gate at a railway crossing.
Take a look at the video below:
https://twitter.com/Bz6cgzD/status/1116833777441882112The incident occurred at a crossing along the Keisei Electric Railway in the city’s Miyamoto district at approximately 7:15 a.m. on 13 April. Witnesses called police, who arrived at the scene and found two poles had been sawn off, allowing the perpetrator to drive across the tracks and flee the area.
After viewing the above footage, police tracked down the suspect using the number plates on the vehicle which were clearly visible in the video. This resulted in the arrest of a self-employed 53-year-old man from Ichikawa City in western Chiba, who was charged with damage to property.
Trains on the line were suspended to prevent injury following the damage to the railroad crossing. According to police, the suspect admitted to sawing off the gates, saying he lost his temper after being held up in traffic and then at the crossing, despite having work to do.
Attacking the barrier wasn’t the best response to the situation, but as we’ve seen in the past, when people snap and lose their temper, there’s no telling what they might do.
