Luxury ice cream combines the beloved Japanese citrus with a classic French dessert.
Lovers of Japanese flavours have been truly spoilt by luxury ice cream brand Häagen-Dazs in recent years, with a number of limited-edition releases featuring specials like hojicha roasted green tea, cherry blossom, and kuromitsu brown sugar syrup.
Now they’re combining a very Japanese flavour with a famous French dessert for a limited time, to create the Yuzu Blanc Manger.
Blanc manger, or blancmange as it’s commonly known outside of its home country, is a chilled dessert usually made with milk or cream and sugar thickened with gelatin. It looks and tastes like panna cotta, and can be flavoured with a variety of fruity ingredients to give it a light and refreshing aftertaste.
That’s exactly what Häagen-Dazs have done for their next new Japan-exclusive release, combining the nation’s popular citrus, yuzu, with blancmange for a limited time.
The new ice cream contains a generous serving of yuzu juice, combined with a yuzu oil extracted from the rind, to add an enticing aroma and a refreshing hit of tartness to the dessert. And to top it all off, the ice cream will come with a delectable yuzu sauce topping.
According to the company, the acidity and tartness of the yuzu, wrapped up in mellow milk flavours, creates a rich and luxurious tasting ice cream that’s perfect for summer.
The Yuzu Blanc Manger ice cream will retail for 319 yen (US$2.94) and be available in stores around Japan from 23 July.
