Recently a video titled Where is Dobayashi’s Ball Going… Home Run Girl Stares as She Waits Her Turn was uploaded onto the official YouTube channel for Nippon Professional Baseball’s Central League. Within days it became the most watched video on the channel with 286,249 views and counting. The reason why this video of a failed home run became so popular is clear from the image above.
However, you might be wondering what this stunningly beautiful woman is doing in full uniform clutching a doll of what appears to be the Phillie Phanatic and intensely staring at player, Shota Dobayashi.
A few years ago Hiroshima Municipal Stadium, home of the Hiroshima Toyo Carp baseball team, was woefully renamed Mazda Zoom-Zoom Stadium Hiroshima. Despite the lame name, the stadium was the one place you could find Home Run Girls. A Home Run Girl is a hot woman who runs out onto the field and presents stuffed animals to players that hit home runs. This particular home run girl is clutching her doll and hoping that Carp player, Shota Dobayashi, hits one out of the park. However, for those fleeting seconds that the camera lands on her, the hearts of guys across the country skipped a beat.
Comments from YouTube viewers range from “I wish I was a stuffed animal” to “I’m staring at her like she’s staring at Dobayashi” and “I think I ought to go to Hiroshima Municipal Baseball Stadium a little more.”
By the way, that doll she’s holding isn’t exactly the Philadelphia Phillies’ famous mascot, the Phillie Phanatic. Its name is Slyly and was designed by Acme Mascots, the same company that made the Phanatic.
****UPDATE*****
It has been brought to our attention that the video can only be viewed in Japan. Please enjoy the following play-by-play!
