Sadly, there are very few ways to make money spontaneously appear in your pockets. We hear animal sacrifices work, but there’s all kinds of ethical complications, plus you need a rock solid alibi when your neighbor comes asking if you know where her poodle went.
But game manufacturer Capcom has found a simpler way that won’t get them arrested: adding Nintendo mascots into their games.
Specifically, Capcom has announced that Mario and Luigi-themed mascot skins and a Legend of Zelda Link player character skin will be available in the company’s new Monster Hunter 4 RPG for 3DS,
Whatever Capcom rep made the announcement presumably then spontaneously combusted into a shower of hundred dollar bills and gold coins as Nintendo fanboys everywhere willed all of their cash into his pockets.
Downloading the Mario and Luigi skins will replace the cute, helpful cat mascots of the series with sort of weird looking cat mascot-esque Mario and Luigi dopplegangers. Players who prefer to get a little more hands-on with their Nintendo character collaborations can download a player character skin that garbs the player’s avatar in Link’s classic green getup, complete with Zelda series secondary weapons like bombs and boomerangs.
Details are still scarce concerning the Nintendo-Capcom collaboration. The Link skin will apparently be a reward for completing a downloadable quest, but no word on whether the quest will cost additional money to download or be free to those that purchase the full game itself.
Monster Hunter is wildly popular in its native Japan despite lukewarm reception in many other regions. Each title in the series is a semi-open world action RPG that tasks players with, you guessed it, hunting monsters. The fourth installment in the series will be available in Japan from September 14.
