Fashion can be…confusing at times. Especially for those of us whose wardrobe consists of a black T-shirt and a white T-shirt, in case a fancy event comes up.
But there’s no denying that fashion, as an art form, takes its inspiration from the world around us. While not every design will become a permanent fixture or even necessarily work really well, we have to respect the creativity and thought that goes into making fashionable clothes. Though maybe this particular concept should have stayed on the drawing board…or in the dog park!
Caught by sharp-eyed Twitter user, Maro, the picture below is of a recent fashion magazine featuring the latest fashion trend: harnesses.
Billed as the “next suspenders,” the harness is described as a “fashionable accessory” and priced at nearly 7,000 yen (roughly US$70). Some of the tips offered on the page include “simply crossing your suspenders to get something that looks like a harness” and “add a harness over a sweater for a fresh look.”
We’re not sure exactly what kind of fresh look they’re going for, but as Maro wondered, “Why are harnesses popular? They’re for large dogs, aren’t they? Bewildering!“
It looks like quite a few people wondered the same thing, with the photo getting retweeted over 13,000 times in Japan and receiving hundreds of replies:
That looks like the one we use on my dog at home!
Certainly most people think of a “harness” as something to put on dogs. Though people with small children might think of a “baby harness.” But I suppose they’d be in the minority.
My daughter has been wearing a harness since last year. She’s a trendsetter! LOL
However, others pointed out a slightly…different association for harnesses…
Maybe they have a taste for SM? Or for punk fashion? Though I guess for older people, all they’d think about is dog harnesses.
This is…well, SM certainly is making headway!
Are you sure this isn’t part of the SM world??
▼Yow-za! Buy you’re very own fashion accessory here!
The harness…not the model!
Well, regardless of what the inspiration was, it looks like harnesses might very well be the hot fashion item this year. Clothing, it seems, is optional.
See you at the dog park, I guess!
