We are well aware of the lengths Apple fanatics go to for their devices, and while waiting in line for 48 hours may make for some precious memories, one fan’s devotion gave rise to something quite tangible and utilitarian. Whether you have small hands or inherited stubby fingers like Lisa Simpson, check out the clever case Japanese Twitterer and sound engineer Gusoh came up with so that he could still easily manipulate the larger iPhone 6 with one hand! That leaves the other five digits free for, say, coffee or an iPod Touch? (I’m sure you’ve seen these busy people on the train, right?)
As you may know, the iPhone 6 is roughly 0.84 cm (0.33 inches) wider and 1.4 cm (0.55 inches) taller than the 5S; the 6 Plus is about 1.9 cm (0.75 inches) wider and 3.4 cm (1.34 inches) taller than its predecessor. The new models may not fit as comfortably in the hand for some, making texting and thumb-swiping awkward and difficult. Well, thanks to some pragmatic design work and 3D printing technology, Gusoh made a case that quickly caught the attention of fellow Twitter and smartphone users; his upload was retweeted over five thousand times in a single day!

The photos show that the extra vertical grip running down the middle of the phone allows the thumb to reach the far corners effortlessly. Given all the attention this tweet received, it seems like two-handed smartphone usage is simply out of the question for many. Gusoh’s feed included comments like:

According to the creator’s own comments, he’s thinking of improving upon the design because he discovered that as it is now, scrolling is more easily done when the phone is held in the left hand. Personally, I’m addicted to those wallet-style cases for my Samsung Note 3—hey, quit it with the apples and rotten tomatoes—so one-handed operation never occurred to me in the first place. But in any case, Gusoh, you might want to look into applying for a patent!
