Mari-chan might be “the meanest dog in Japan,” but we still can’t help but love her. We’ve seen her before “helping” her master study by spraying him with water, comically refusing his desperate advances for doggie kisses, and even going so far as to nonchalantly knock away his crutches and life preserver rope.
But now Mari-chan has decided to move on: she’s gotten a real job, as a construction worker. Her latest YouTube video shows her first ten days as the newbie at work, learning the ropes and causing plenty of adorable mischief.
Here’s a screenshot from each of the six scenes in the video. Scroll down to watch the full thing if you’d like, complete with a translation below.
▼ Scene 1: I hope nothing goes wrong when Mari-chan holds the tape measure….
▼ Scene 2: Those are some pretty important blueprints you got there, Mari-chan.
▼ Scene 3: Lunch break after a tough day of messing things up.
▼ Scene 4: What could that little extra hole possibly be for?
▼ Scene 5: Nothing can ever go wrong at birthday parties.
▼ Scene 6: Mari-chan can’t remember if you turn the lights on or off at bedtime.

Video Title: “10 Days of the Newbie and his Boss”
Scene 1: All right, let’s measure the panel. Newbie, hold this over there. Okay (implying hand me something). Ouch! Not that! I wanted the saw.
Scene 2: Newbie, are you holding onto the blueprints tight? Hold onto them good! If you don’t, you’ll mess them up, got it?
Scene 3: Be sure to chew well when you eat. Chew, all right? Eat! Are you chewing well? Chewing is your job too!
Scene 4: We have to work in a small space. Don’t get scared. All right, let’s do it. (Hide.) Hey newbie. Newbie. Today’s my granddaughter Meg’s birthday. I’ll invite you too. All right back to work. (Hide.) You okay over there? If you’re okay, stick your hand out. (Sticks hand out.) All right, yeah you’re good.
Scene 5: (Granddaughter Meg’s birthday party.)
Scene 6: Hey Newbie, if I die, shine the spotlights on me please. (Turns on lights. Sits up.) Although now looking back… ugh.
While Mari-chan has lots of English-speaking fans, here’s some translations of a few Japanese comments she got:
“Seems like Mari-chan’s acting has leveled up.”
“Mari-chan is so amazing. I’m in tears!”
“She’s getting more and more overseas fans, looks like all her videos need to come with subtitles now.”
“When her little paw came out the hole in the box d’aww it was just too much!”
“She should be getting movie deal offers any day now.”
