These birds were made for both eating and tweeting!
We’ve seen animal sweets before, with cute manju, doughnuts, and panda cakes, but the recently opened Patisserie Swallow Tail in Tokyo is taking it to a whole new level.
Not satisfied with a simple smiling animal face on a round pastry, they’ve striven to make the most accurate bird pastries we’ve ever seen. Here’s some screenshots and translations from their menu, so you can see for yourself the extreme detail on these things and what they’re made up of:
Left: Shoe-billed stork – cake with chocolate base, custard and sesame cream.
Middle: Cockatiel – cake with almond-milk mousse and candied chestnuts.
Right: Parakeet – cake with soy mousse plus orange and caramelized almonds.
Left: Rose-breasted Cockatoo – tart with coconut and black currant topping/filling.
Middle: Snowy Owl – roll cake with yogurt cream and lemon.
Right: Eurasian Eagle-Owl – black tea mousse with orange roll and chocolate cream.
Left: Sakura Sparrow – black cherry tart with sakura and cheese mousse.
Middle/Right: bird butter cookies – just look at that regal owl!
We have to say, the creativity and effort that went into these things is through the roof. If someone asked me to make a cockatiel pastry, I’d have no idea where to even begin. But these guys succeeded with flying colors. I mean, did you see that snowy owl?!
Want to see a closeup of their creations? Here’s some tweets showing off the cafe’s heavy-duty arsenal of cute bird sweets: (Click pictures to enlarge.)
▼ On the right here we have a cockatiel, parakeet, and cockatoo just hanging out and looking pretty as their owner probably slowly comes to terms with the fact that they will have to eat these adorable creatures.

Patisserie Swallow Tail will only be open until January 29, so hurry up and get those wings flapping before all the sweets have flown away.
