In true Japanese fashion, the three officers went above and beyond to ensure this family of ducks made it safely across the street.
Twitter user @ino__haku feared the worst when he saw several police officers on the street, thinking there must have been a terrible accident or an unnerving crime in the area. As he got closer, however, a huge smile appeared on his face as he realised the officers were actually shepherding a family of ducks across the street.
▼ The duck and its ducklings were lucky to find themselves in good care on their unusual outing.
With not one but three officers ready to attend to the aquatic birds, they were all diligent in the task, bending down close to the ground and gently calling out “Kocchi da yo!” (“This way!“) and “Socchi wa dame da yo!” (“Not that way!“), while tapping their light batons on the ground to keep the ducks on the right path. The person who tweeted the photo says it was the most wonderful thing he’d seen, with the gentle looks of kind concern on the officers’ faces melting his heart.

Fellow Twitter users were just as touched by the scene, leaving comments like:
“The daily news is always so depressing so it’s wonderful to see a nice story like this for a change!”
“I love the smiles on the officers’ faces”
“Such a sight of peace and harmony in Japan! Let’s continue to be like this in the future!”
“I can’t decide who’s cuter – the ducks or the police officers!”
“Just because you’re not human doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy kindness in Japan!”
The police officers really should give themselves a well-deserved pat on the back. Not only did they successfully escort the ducks all the way to the river on the other side of the street, but they also managed to bring smiles to thousands of people online and restore everyone’s faith in humanity in the process. Not a bad day’s work!
