Your armpits, not to mention your coworkers, family members, and fellow commuter train passengers, will thank you.
It’s summer, which means the sun is shining, the temperature is rising, and armpits are sweating. While no one likes having a steady stream of perspiration dripping down the side of his or her upper body, it’s kind of hard to stop the flow when your body takes it upon itself to enact countermeasures against Japan’s hot and humid weather at this time of year.
However, Japanese gadgetry producer Thanko has a solution that’s more high-tech, and less soggy, than wedging a sponge under your arm, The company’s new Under the Armpit Cooling Device (Waki no Shita Kura in Japanese) is a mini fan that clips on to your shirt sleeve and delivers a blast of air to keep your pits dry.
▼ Are you so sweaty that disembodied hands materialize out of thin air to point out your shame?
▼ Just snap on one of these babies, and say good-bye to those accusatory fingers!
Two AAA batteries will keep the fan blowing for five to nine hours, depending on which of the three selectable speeds you use. Alternatively, you can power the device by plugging the included 35-centimeter (13.8-inch) USB cord into your PC or a separately purchased battery pack.
▼ Battery recharger not included
▼ Speed settings and USB plug.
The Armpit Cooling Device is priced at 1,980 yen (US$19) for a single unit, or 3,800 for a set of two (domestic single orders here, two-unit set orders here). The clip-on design means that in addition to attaching the device to your sleeves, you can also use it to keep you stomach or neck cool by positioning one on the front or collar of your shirt.
So thanks, Thanko, for always thinking of new ways to keep us cool in the summer.
