Japanese sweets and teas every bit as elegant and colorful as Kyoto itself.
You’ve been on the early-morning sakura tour and discovered the “Venice of Japan” in Kyoto. You’re ready for a break, but you just can’t get enough of all things beautiful and Kyoto. So, where do you go? We have a brand new cafe to introduce to you.
Saryo Fukucha is a wagashi (or “Japanese sweets”) and tea cafe that just opened on April 3 in Kyoto Station. This cafe offers you the chance to enjoy delicate Japanese desserts with rich green teas, herbal teas, and more. Many of the sweets are so visually appealing, you won’t even want to eat them.
▼ Take this matcha blancmange, which blends matcha, cream, and chestnuts to look almost like a green jewel, for example.
Saryo Fukucha also offers an afternoon tea set that pairs herb tea with a myriad of colorful wagashi. It contains two of each item arranged carefully and artfully.
▼ Do you dare to eat it, or are you just ordering it for the Instagram photo?
Some sweets even combine sweetness with the flavor of different teas, like this roasted green tea houjicha chocolate. It’s a dish you have to complete yourself by pouring sauce onto the chocolate, so it gives you some entertainment!
▼ The warm houjicha sauce mixes with chocolate to create a decadent snack.
There are also snacks that mirror seasonal aspects, like this cherry blossom and strawberry sandwich-like snack.
▼ Delicious in-season fruit along with beautiful, fleeting cherry blossoms…perfection.
If it’s the tea you’re after, you can be assured it’s high-quality since professional Japanese tea instructors are the ones brewing it.
▼ The ladle used to pour out individual servings of tea even has a little filter!
You can sit inside and enjoy Saryo Fukucha’s stylish interior, or if you want to enjoy your snack on the go, they also offer take-out.
▼ The warm wood accents and simple decoration basically scream “Kyoto!”
If you’re looking for more aesthetic sweets, don’t forget to try Kyoto’s “Cloud Drink” on your foodie tour as well!
