The unusual admissions policy has raised some eyebrows, but it’s very apparent that this space is meant to appeal to a specific clientele.
We’ve seen dining establishments with interesting admissions policies pop up in Tokyo before, including this women-only restaurant and a pasta place that explicitly bans couples from dining on one night of the year. Now there’s a new intimate lounge in town with a similar gimmick–only couples are allowed admittance.
The Private Lounge opened on May 10 in Tokyo’s upscale Akasaka district. Its most distinctive feature is that most of the rooms are semiprivate or private, making it an ideal space to deepen your relationship with that special someone.
The thrill begins with a secret entrance involving four numbered panels and three doors in order to enter the interior. You’ll receive instructions with a special code when booking a reservation.
Each type of space within the lounge comes with a different associated charge. The different room types to choose from are as follows :
Floor counter seats: no charge
VIP 1: Floor sofa (3,000 yen/US$27.40)
VIP 2: Semiprivate room (5,000 yen)
VIP 3: Fully private room with bed (10,000 yen)
It’s important to note that snacks and drink are charged separately from the room fee. Beer begins at 864 yen and upwards, while whisky, cocktails, shochu, and various shots begin at 1,000 yen each. However, take note that wine is significantly pricier, beginning at 9,000 yen a bottle. The Private Lounge is definitely not a place you would go to for a lively night out, but rather somewhere to enjoy an intimate conversation with your significant other.
According to the press release, the restaurant wanted to set itself apart with an unexpected interior and appeal to sophisticated adult tastes with the inclusion of beds in some areas. The website describes the decor as “eccentric and luxury [sic].”
Reservations for The Private Lounge are currently being taken either by phone (+81-03-6441-3383) or LINE. If you’re looking for something a little more sophisticated and elegant for your next couples night out, this could be the perfect place to try.
