Even more popular than Minesweeper, Solitaire was a favorite of office workers everywhere. A free game that came bundled in old Microsoft computers, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who has never played Solitaire.exe.
Now you don’t even have to have a clunky old computer to play pixelated palm tree and sandy beach motif solitaire, you just have to pick up a deck of these cards.
The cards were designed by Evan Roth, an “interaction designer” whose work has appeared in The Museum of Modern Art.
Evan Roth explains his concept design better than anyone else can: “A simple piece of software got us through the dark ages of computing before the Internet allowed us to waste company time more effectively. Now you can reconnect with this old friend on the other side of the computer screen. Solitaire.exe is a physical recreation of the popular computer card game included in the Windows 98 operating system.”
These unique playing cards were available from Cooper-Hewitt for US$20. They are limited to 500 sets, all of which are signed and numbered by Evan Roth himself. Unfortunately, all decks have been sold, but those interested in purchasing one can join a mailing list to be notified when more become available.
