Cats have been working on us humans for years now, using the internet to their advantage and doing whatever it takes to look adorable. And now it seems they’ve taken a significant step towards their ultimate goal of world domination: a Japanese company has manufactured wine especially for felines.
Earlier today, pet food and supplement maker B&H Lifes launched its newest product, Nyan Nyan Nouveau (“meow Nouveau”), announcing the good news via press release.
The company states that the wine comes in the wake of popular products such as Wan Wan Beer (woof woof beer) and after receiving numerous requests from customers asking for “a drink for my cat that we can celebrate Christmas and birthdays with!” which of course makes no sense whatsoever because, as any cat owner will tell you, as far as cats are concerned every day is their birthday.
Nyan Nyan Nouveau does not, in fact, contain any alcohol, but is packed full of vitamins and, along with a trace of catnip, includes juice from Cabernet Franc wine grapes. In all honesty, though, having owned a cat who lived to the ripe old age of 22 and who was incredibly fond of an occasional drop of whiskey, gin or sherry from anyone’s fingertip, I can’t help wondering whether our feline overlords will be angered that B&H chose not to include a tiny drop of alcohol in their special drink.
The maker acknowledges that most cats do not tend to consume liquids for their taste, but anticipates a great many orders from pet owners who want their furry friends to join in the fun during the festive season and upon the imminent arrival of this year’s Beaujolais Nouveau, of which Japan is the world’s second-largest consumer after Germany.
Nyan Nyan Nouveau is due to go on sale today via B&H Life’s online store, and costs 399 yen (US$4) for a 180ml bottle.
