Japan’s favourite cartoon dog continues his quest for country-wide domination this month with a brand new Snoopy-themed cafe scheduled to open in Oita Prefecture on April 19th. The cafe’s theme fuses Snoopy cartoons and traditional Japanese style, or wa (和). The new venture comes hot on the tails of Snoopy x Japanesque, a collaboration last year that saw the cute line-drawn character from Charles M. Schulz’s comics combined with traditional Japanese artisan works.
Snoopy cha-ya (meaning “tea-house” in Japanese) will open in Yofu, Oita, and although Snoopy’s assistants remain tight-lipped about the plans, the cafe’s official site promises a combination of Snoopy character goods, and traditional Japanese style decorations, including paintings, wall hangings and tapestries. The menu will be based around specialist matcha green tea, and there will be exclusive Snoopy goods available too.
The information on the official Snoopy Japan website is a little thin on the ground and, with no photos of the cafe, suggests the cafe’s decor is either a well-kept secret or just not quite ready for the public gaze yet (we sure hope it’s the former, not the latter). But if the new store’s collaboration looks anything like Snoopy x Japanesque did, we’re in for a treat:

As for those exclusive Snoopy goods? We’re hoping they’ll be as cool as the January 2014 Snoopy wagara collection, which took its name from wagara (和柄) meaning traditional Japanese pattern or design, and combines Schulz’s drawings with light Japanese tableware:

Until April 19th though, we’ll just have to wait and see!
