Earlier this month, producers shared the first photos of the cast of the upcoming live-action Lupin III film. Fans were excited to see the band of rouges from the hit anime and manga in the flesh, and now they can see them in motion thanks to the release of the movie’s trailer.
Protagonist Lupin is a thief by trade, and we assume the theatrical feature will have plenty of stealthy scenes of him and his crew sneaking around the scene of their crimes. The preview, though, is packed with clips from action sequences for the story of who it calls “the bold, invincible, and world’s most famous master thief.”
In just a brief 30 seconds, we’re promised scenes of explosions…
…martial arts…
…swordplay…
…gunplay…
…and more explosions.
We also see some of the most iconic images associated with the series, such as Lupin and henchman Jigen’s Fiat 500…
…Inspector Zenigata yelling in frustration…
…and femme fatale Fujiko being sexy, just because.
The producers are still playing things close to the vest regarding the film’s story, and the trailer doesn’t give any real clues. Even the era the events take place in is hard to pin down, as in the scene above Lupin’s old-school Fiat sideswipes a Hummer H3 (a model that was in production from 2005 to 2010), but we also see Zenigata riding around with the Saitama Prefectural Police in squad cars built in the 1970s.
Thankfully, those mysteries will be all cleared up when the film opens on August 30 in Japan.
