Potato chips and chocolate aren’t as obvious of a choice as chips and salsa, but the Royce Confectionary Company in Japan has had a impressive amount of success with their Potato Chip Chocolate snacks. With their sweet and salty flavor combination, these little treats are uncommonly satisfying. And even if you don’t live in Japan, you’re in luck, we have a super simple recipe just for you!
【Ingredients】
- One bag of potato chips
- At least one bar of chocolate
- 1 – 1.5 tbsp milk
- Almond praline
- Freeze-dried raspberries
【How to Prepare】
1. Finely chop the chocolate, add it to the milk and heat in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time until melted, stirring in between each 30-second interval.
2. Make sure your heated chocolate is completely melted by giving it an extra stir!
3. Dip one side of the potato chips into the chocolate and place them on a sheet of parchment paper. Sprinkle with the topping of your choice.
4. Place the chocolatey chips in the refrigerator to harden and you’re done!
- Ruffled potato chips (or crisps) are the best to use and look most like Royce’s chocolate-covered chips.
- You can use any kind of chocolate you want (we chose milk and white!).
- Be sure to not use too much milk, you want the chocolate to harden once it’s on the chip and too much milk will prevent that from happening.
- Be careful not to crunch the potato chips when you dip them into the chocolate…they’ll still be tasty, but small.
- If your chocolate sits out too long and becomes hard, just add a small amount of milk and microwave it for five seconds. Mix!
- If you want your chocolate-covered potato chips to have a glossy finish, add in 1/4 teaspoon of canola oil to one bar of chocolate while melting. You’ll have shiny potato chips (as long as you don’t add too much oil!)
After our reporter was finished making her decadent snack, she tried her first chocolate-covered potato chip…and then another…and then another. She couldn’t stop her hand from reaching for more and eventually ate them all. This time, she used a somewhat cheap bar of chocolate, but this recipe would also be delicious with chocolate that has a higher percentage of cacao. Usually making sweets at home is a lengthy, time-consuming endeavor, the mere thought of which makes most people want to head to the store for pre-made snacks. But this recipe is so easy and only requires a microwave for the most difficult step. Potato chips, chocolate, milk – if you have these three simple ingredients, why not try out this recipe today?
