Sanrio’s Gudetama, the anthropomorphic egg character that hates to do anything other than sleep, has somehow managed to win a place in our hearts—at least among fans of kawaii in Japan. He’s now one of Sanrio’s most popular characters and has been turned into products of various shapes and sizes, including some in edible form, so we already knew that he looks adorable being served as food.
But what we didn’t know, as these videos from a dim sum cafe in Hong Kong show, is how cute Gudetama looks even when he’s, well … pooping and vomiting!
It’s no secret that Gudetama has a following in Hong Kong, as he even had his own pop-up store there this summer, and now, he has a whole line of dim sum foods dedicated to him at the DIM SUM ICON restaurant in the Kowloon district.
In particular, people seem to have been going gaga over the chocolate and custard filled buns … for reasons that you can see in the videos we’ve included below.
So, here’s what can happen when you have character themed buns containing plenty of runny chocolate and custard cream:
▼ This is what the chocolate bun looks like. We have to say they’ve done a pretty good job of recreating the character.
▼ Yes, he even has an adorable behind.
▼ But when you squeeze him … oh no, that can’t be good.
▼ Oh dear, what a mess!
▼ You can see the entire pooping chocolate excreting process in this video:
▼ And here’s the custard filled bun, also looking plump and sweet.
▼ Give him a little squeeze, and sure enough, he regurgitates vomit custard cream.
▼ We’re not sure if we’re captivated or put off by all that custard!
▼ And here’s the video showing how Gudetama throws up the custard cream!
You know, it really isn’t fair that a sentient egg can look so tantalizing while being squeezed and squirting out cream! It’s no wonder people are going crazy over the Gudetama dim sum. If we were in Hong Kong, we’d definitely want to try these too.
Gudetama may be lazy, but he certainly seems busy delighting people with his creamy sweetness in this case—maybe he’s a harder worker than he realizes. Well, we love you anyway, Gudetama, regardless of how lazy you are (or not) and we hope you continue to thrill us in many more forms for years to come!
