Japan’s two Sanrio theme parks are holding a one-day event on December 4 filled with shows, special events and your favorite characters. The best part is that it will cost you absolutely nothing to get in that day!
Sanrio Puroland in Tokyo and Harmonyland in Oita are two of the best places to find all your favorite Sanrio characters. The theme parks have a number of attractions and shows for Hello Kitty, My Melody, and Bad Badtz-Maru fans. On a normal day, the price for adults to get into the park is 3,300 yen (US $27) at Puroland and 2,900 yen at Harmonyland.
However, there’s one day a year where Sanrio wants to give back to all of their wonderful fans. The theme parks call it the Sanrio Thanks Party and along with hosting a number of special events and shows, admission is free to everyone on that day.
There will also be special meet and greets for many of the characters, charity auctions and special merchandise created just for the Thanks Party. What’s more, at Puroland there will be a number of autograph opportunities with famous Sanrio designers who will draw fans an autographed picture of some of the beloved characters including My Melody, Cinnamoroll, Gudetama, and, of course, Hello Kitty.
The Sanrio Thanks Party will be held on December 4, which almost perfectly lines up with the grand opening of Puroland 25 years ago on December 7. Coincidentally, the Thanks Party will also mark the beginning of the 25th anniversary celebration of the theme park, which will have limited-edition merchandise, special food items and a brand new parade called the Miracle Gift Parade
▼ It may look like colorful Play-Doh, but it’s food!
▼ It’s always a celebration when you have an onion ring tower!
▼ Scarily blue, but completely edible.
▼ Surprisingly, everything seems to be the right color on this plate.
Any time is a great time to visit one of Japan’s most beloved theme parks, so getting in for free is just icing on the Kitty-chan cake. If you can’t make it then, be sure to check out the anniversary celebration at Puroland, which is sure to delight any Sanrio fan.
