The official Pokémon website recently shared two surprising revelations about Generation I Fighting-type Pokémon Machamp which may leave you blushing!
As part of the Pokémon franchise’s upcoming 20th anniversary celebration in February next year, the Pokémon Daisuki Club, which is the official Pokémon fan club in Japan, has been sharing some interesting trivia about a certain Pokémon that’s been around since the very first games in the series were released.
The site is currently paying homage to the Machamp family, which includes Fighting-types Machop, Machoke, and the fully evolved form of Machamp, through the release of a virtual “Kairicky [Machamp] Gym.” The site has yet to be updated with special promotional offers including a mini-manga, but for now visitors can expand their knowledge of the strong Pokémon trio with some trivia which has never even been revealed in the Pokédex before.
▼ Machamp, one of the original Fighting-type Pokémon from the first-generation games.
▼ Virtual gym instructors Sayaka and Osamu are here to give you the inside scoop about Machamp!
Speaking of the inside scoop, want to find out two of those little secrets now? Okay, let’s have Sayaka take it away!
Machoke and Machamp’s underwear secret
“Sayaka: It may look like Machoke and Machamp are wearing underwear, but they’re actually not wearing anything. What looks like underwear is just a pattern. After all, Pokémon don’t wear clothes to begin with, right? ‘It’s not wearing anything!'”
Secret about distinguishing between the sexes
“Sayaka: People often say that they can’t tell the difference between male and female Machamps, but the Pokémon themselves know. Try taking a closer look…you can’t tell the difference after all?”
Japanese net users reacted to the amusing trivia in a variety of ways:
“Machamp are such exhibitionists, LOL.”
“So what the heck’s that belt, then!?”
“I guess I can believe the thing about no underwear since Machop doesn’t have any markings at all.”
“I laughed at the female Machamp.”
“I still have no idea how to tell the males and the females apart.”
Well how do like that, Machoke and Machamp weren’t wearing anything at all for the past 20 years…we’re still trying to wrap our minds around how to tell the sexes apart, though!
