Artist mixes rock music with Buddhist and Confucian architecture for peak imagery.
Beijing artist DU Kun isn’t just an artist who funnels his passion through his gorgeous paintings — he’s also a talented musician who debuted professionally when he was still a student. His love for the two arts has been brought together in a series of paintings titled “Revels of the Rock Gods”, which reimagines Chinese rock stars as gigantic and beautiful temples.

These enormous canvases allow for exquisitely fine details and DU Kun has ingeniously combined powerful aspects of nature with the quintessential elements of wooden temples, including Buddhist deities, temple arches, ornately designed windows and elegantly painted flowers.

Luckily for residents of Japan, they don’t have to travel all the way to China in order to check out his amazing artwork in person. The Mizuma Art Gallery in Tokyo is currently featuring “Revels of the Rock Gods” in an exhibition until February 13, 2016. If you’re in the city, be sure to check out these unique oil portraits up close.
