For those silent parties without speakers.
When you have only one smartphone but two people who want to listen to it, what do you do? Well if you’re a Rudey McRuderson you would have no problem with playing your music on speaker, disturbing the all people around you. There’s also the more polite way of each taking just one earbud, but that kind of takes away from the surround-sound musical experience and you often can’t hear the music properly. That’s where the handy invention — the headphone splitter — comes in, so the both of you can plug in your earphones and fully enjoy the music.
But, say there are more than two people? What if you have, oh, I dunno… 100 people who all want to listen to the same thing at the same time on one single smartphone or mp3 player? Well, the exact same headphone splitter cable that helped two people connect to the same audio jack can be used to help those 100 who all want to listen to the same thing at once, as demonstrated to us by well-known Japanese YouTube personality Hajime Shacho.
(Don’t care to watch the intro? Go ahead and skip to 2:04 to see the demonstration in action.)
The procedure? Simply plug a headphone splitter into the earphone jack. With just this, two people should be able to plug in and listen.
But, if instead of earphones you plug in another splitter, three people now have the ability to listen in.
Then one more splitter on the original one allows for FOUR people.
And with that, all you need are about a bazillion more headphone splitters, then keep repeating the process until you have enough jacks for 50 earphones. Then, plug in those 50 earphones and you’ll have something that resembles a dozen octopi that attempted to tango.
And there you have it: should the need ever arise, you now have the means to let anywhere from 50 to 100 people (should everyone share earphones) listen to one audio device without relying on speakers… For those times when you want to party but can’t have the noise?
