From My Neighbor Totoro to Porco Rosso, these cute kits let you recreate miniature worlds from your favorite Miyazaki films.
We’ve taken a look at a few different Ghibli papercraft art sets in the past, and, well, we honestly can’t get enough of the adorable miniatures and all of their intricate details! After spending a few hours staring at the the over-50 Ghibli papercraft kits available, we just had to share the five best (in our opinion anyway) sets with wonderful readers. Check them out below and let us know if you agree or disagree in the comments!
5. My Neighbor Totoro
Everyone’s favorite Cat Bus sits perched atop Satsuki and Mei’s little white and red-roofed house as the girls wave excitedly from the ground. Faux leaves, grass, bushes and flowers really bring the scene to life.
▼ Just… don’t look at it from behind!
▼ So tiny!
This kit and the six centimeter (2.4 inch) cubic display can be yours for 2,467 yen from Amazon Japan or US$27.60 from Amazon USA.
4. Porco Rosso
You may not be able to enjoy paradise in real life, but you can have your own…with some assembly and a little imagination. The Hotel Adriano sits in the middle of the sea, surrounded by lush green trees and moss-covered walls. Tiny stairs lead down to the docks where little boats await to take passengers and supplies to and fro.
▼ It has all of the detail, even down to the window panes!
Available from Amazon Japan for 11,598 yen and Amazon USA for $115.02.
3. Howl’s Moving Castle
The moving castle may not resemble any castle we’ve ever seen, but that’s what gives it its charm. Quirky and cute, with a good amount of steampunk influence, the model of this animal-like castle almost looks like it’s ready to head off on another adventure.
▼ Individual bricks and parts bolted together at the seams!
Purchase and assemble your own moving castle for 10,063 from Amazon Japan or $79 from Amazon USA.
2. Kiki’s Delivery Service
The 1/150 scale model of Kiki and Jiji’s home looks straight from the movie. Decorate the roof and walls with moss, and fill the yard with lush green grass and flowers to give the house its beautiful country feel. There is even a miniature Kiki running from the front steps and, if you look close enough, a minuscule Jiji curled up near the porch.
▼ Did you spot Jiji?
For 3,909 yen from Amazon Japan or $49.88 from Amazon USA, you can create Kiki’s home in your own.
1. Spirited Away
Perhaps the most impressive of all is the aburayu bathhouse where Chihiro finds work. This model includes everything from the bridge at the entrance to the trees in the front gardens, the fencing and wooden window frames, the smokestack, and even the rickety old stairs down the backside of the building.
▼ You can almost hear the workers and guests bustling around inside.
At 53,736 yen from Amazon Japan or $537.36 from Amazon USA, it’s not exactly an inexpensive papercraft set, but the end result is sure to be magical. Dare to take on the challenge?
With so many wonderful kits to choose from, it was hard to select just five! Don’t take our word for it though — be sure to take a look at them all and let us know which ones you think should have made the list.
