Forget the little old lady who lived in a shoe; there’s a Japanese family who lives in a milk carton.
Mirasaka is a quiet, nondescript country town, surrounded by fields and consisting largely of low-rise houses, located about an hour-and-a-half away from Hiroshima Station by car. Despite its quaint appearance, though, there’s one local landmark that makes the town stand out, attracting so much attention it’s even been shown on national television to gasps of surprise and excited applause.
▼ It’s the giant milk carton house!
https://twitter.com/zou_da_zou/status/742906233045164032Shaped and coloured to look like the “Mainichi Gyunyu”, or “Daily Milk” brand, the red-white-and-blue building stands tall above the other houses in the area.
Looking at the real carton, you can see just how well the building replicates the original product.
The building houses a milk store, run by a family business that lives on the premises and also delivers the dairy product to the neighbourhood.
The giant milk carton has been gracing the town with its presence for more than thirty years. Here’s hoping it’s still there providing milk to the locals with its happy facade for many more years to come!
