For some raisin, we’re feeling hungry all of a sudden…
Japan’s convenience stores are the best! If you want a limited edition tasty treat, you don’t even have to go schlepping down to an exclusive store to wait in line with other gourmands for the latest in flavours. No, you need only pop down to the freezer section at your local conbini (the Japanese word for “convenience store”)!
Recently, Haagen-Dazs Japan has been outdoing itself with a range of delectable conbini treats. Most recently, they went all fancy on us with their Salty Vanilla and Caramel and Japonais Black Syrup Kinako Red Bean flavour sensations. But this time they’re taking inspiration from the good ol’ US of A with their newest flavour, New York Cheesecake Rum Raisin. It’s available only at Lawson convenience stores (and who knows how long it’ll stick around), and since we’re fiends for the creamy cold stuff, we decided to check it out.
The ice cream has biscuity, cheesecake-base crumbs mixed in, with a strong (at least flavour-wise) dash of rum added for good measure.
Even though the pots are relatively small, they didn’t skimp on the raisins, either.
The newest addition to Haagen-Dazs’ conbini lineup retails for a very raisin-able 272 yen (US$ 2.60) before tax, making it an affordable summer treat for sugar-fiends with a sophisticated palate.
