
Mos Burger gives us one more reason to love it as we visit the Mos Bar in Tokyo’s Shibuya neighborhood.
If you’re looking for a quick, tasty burger in Japan, one of your best bets is to head for a Mos Burger branch. Not only does Mos Burger pride itself on using fresher ingredients than its fast food rivals, at certain locations you can wash down your hamburger with a cold beer or glass of wine.
Not every Mos Burger serves alcohol, but those that do start at 3 p.m. That means you can’t knock back a stiff drink on your lunch break, but you can tip a glass or two on a leisurely afternoon or in the evening after you finish work, which is what we did when we stopped by the branch in Dogenzaka, not far from Shibuya Station in downtown Tokyo.
While the sign on the door still says “Mos Burger,” chains where alcohol is available are also called “Mos Bars,” and after three o’clock they even have a few special food items on their menu. Some of these are actually pretty fancy for a fast food restaurant, such as the chicken with salsa (390 yen/US$3.80) and the spare rib with French fries (490 yen), the latter of which you can only get at the Shibuya and Kawasaki Mos Bars.
Of course, the main reason we’d come was for the draft beer. Priced at 390 yen, it’s pretty reasonable by Tokyo restaurant standards, and was crisply refreshing after spending a day in the muggy heat of the city.
As a matter of fact, it was so refreshing that we’d gulped down the whole thing before we knew it. On the plus side, this meant we could now order a glass of wine. Mos Bar has both red and white, identically priced at 390 yen.
But the presence of mature beverage options doesn’t mean Mos Bar has forgotten its roots. Diners can also select items from the complete standard menu of Mos Buurger hamburgers, sandwiches, and sides. On the other end of the spectrum, if you want to come in and order just a drink, that’s fine too, meaning that whether you’re thirsty, hungry, or some combination of the two, Mos Bar has you covered.
