A new Japanese music video about apples, pineapples and pens may become this year’s biggest YouTube hit!
Japanese comedian and DJ Kosaka Daimaou’s new song may soon be circulating through most people’s heads all over the globe. Some are even predicting the song may surpass the mega YouTube hit “Gangnam Style” by South Korean artist PSY.
You can watch the music video here. But be warned once you’ve listened to it you can never unhear it and it may be subconsciously playing in your head for days to come.
The song is performed by “DJ Piko-Taro”, a character that was created by 40-year-old Kosaka Daimou during his live shows. Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen has all the elements of a viral hit – catchy tune, nonsensical lyrics, and a ridiculous full body animal print outfit with matching scarf.
The video has already been played over 6 million times on DJ Piko-Taro’s official YouTube channel but it has been reposted on several other channels. For example, 9GAG has reposted the video and amassed over 40 million views.
There have already been several parodies and covers posted online.

Piko-Taro has even gone to the trouble of giving us a lesson on how to do the ‘Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen’ dance – with English subtitles.
Here are some reactions from people watching the video from Piko-Taro’s official channel:
“This masterpiece will beat the sh** out of Gangnam Style, I guarantee it.”
“Hello Japan. It seems once again we need to talk…”
“Still not the weirdest thing I’ve seen today…”
Do you think this latest comical song from Japan will surpass “Gangnam Style”? Or, more importantly, will we ever be able to get the song out of our heads?
