Fried chicken doubles up as the foundation of another of our favorite foods: pizza!

While Kentucky Fried Chicken has gained some notoriety for being horribly unhealthy in the west, Japanese KFC is still considered a trendy fast food chain. So perhaps the company’s decision-makers saw another opportunity to strike, by combining fried chicken with American-style pizza, called the Chizza, which will make its Japanese debut on November 1.

There is a lot to like here: fried chicken, cheese and a smattering of toppings should make for a really delicious and filling meal. The jury is still out on whether or not fried chicken is a better foundation for pizza than dough. We might have to send Mr. Sato out for a taste test to get those results.

While Japan isn’t the first country to get the KFC Chizza, as it already debuted in the Philippines and India, we’re willing to guess that the diners in the Land of the Rising Sun will gobble up this tasty offering. We aren’t as sure about whether it could succeed in America, though, because upon closer inspection, the Chizza bears a striking resemblance to Chicken Parmesan and when you make that connection, the novelty has kind of worn off.
