Their chicken might be finger lickin’ good, but now we don’t have to put up with any of the oily mess that comes with it!
When it comes to fast food joints, nothing beats a burger for a quick-and-easy meal on the go. Not only is it fast, but it’s also easy to eat, with its wrapping conveniently keeping all the juicy sauces and oils away from your hands, so there’s no need to deal with the hassle of finding a washbasin afterwards.
But what happens if you’re visiting a fast food joint that’s known for serving up something a lot messier than a burger? For KFC Japan, the famous purveyors of fried chicken pieces so deliciously oily and juicy they’re described as being “finger-lickin’ good”, there’s a unique solution.
Called the “Finger Nup”, short for “Finger Napkin”, these little bits of plastic work like tiny, two-finger gloves designed to protect thumbs and forefingers from getting oily while holding onto the company’s famous chicken pieces.
According to KFC Japan, the new product works to improve on the popular napkin-around-the-chicken solution employed by many customers to keep their fingers clean while eating their fried chicken pieces. Regular napkins weren’t working well enough to keep the oils from saturating through, so the company decided to trial a more oil-resistant material, in the form of plastic, to keep fingers clean.
Easy to wear and take off, the new Finger Nup is said to be perfect for customers wanting to protect their manicured nails, and those wanting to use their smartphones or laptops immediately after their meal.
With a similar version being previously spotted at fast food joints in other countries like Korea, it looks this might be a trend that’s set to catch on!
Currently being introduced at 222 stores around the Kanto and Kansai regions from December 15, the Finger Nups will be stored behind staff counters in a plastic tub, which looks similar to a pack of wet wipes, so customers wanting to try out the new product will need to make a request with staff at the counter while making their order.
We can only hope KFC decides to re-introduce their all-you-can-eat buffet nights and super cheesy specials like the Chizza so we can really put these Nups to the test!
