Coca-Cola takes the clear drinks trend to a whole new level, and gives us a special Reiwa parody commercial as well.

For the past few years, Japan has been going through a clear drinks boom, with everything from tea to coffee and even non-alcoholic beer shaking up the market with transparent hues.

Last year, Coca-Cola made its foray into the clear drinks field, with a clear coke that contained a dash of lemon, and now the soft drink giant is back again with a new clear coke for 2019, this time with a bold new lime flavour.

The new Coca-Cola Clear Lime is said to be the perfect drink for summer, and the new commercial helping to launch the product comes with a breezy, refreshing summertime theme.

Gulping down the drink for the new ad is Japanese actress, singer and model Haruka Ayase, who first started out as a gravure idol back in 2000. She’s appeared in a number of ads for Coca-Cola, including their special peach releases for 2018 and 2019.

Take a look at the new ad below:

Coca-Cola is having fun with the new release, first announcing it with this video below, styled to look like the official Reiwa announcement made by Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga at a press conference in April.

The Coke commercial shows Ayase announcing the first new Coca-Cola product of the Reiwa era, holding up a sign that says “Reiwa”. Within the characters on the sign, however, the word “ライム” (“lime”) can be seen, in the same way people made out the name of the Japanese Prime Minister within the characters of Reiwa when the sign was first unveiled.

And like the new era name, which is said to translate as “Beautiful Harmony“, the combination of clear and lime is also said to have “Beautiful Harmony”.

The new drink will only be sold during summer, which is also a good time to stock up on Coca-Cola slushie packs and those amazing self-freezing Cokes from Japan’s vending machines.

The Coca-Cola Clear Lime will be available nationwide from 10 June at a recommended retail price of 140 yen (US$1.29).
