Fans of Attack on Titan are sort of in the doldrums right now as far as developments go for the smash hit anime and manga franchise. The recent release of a new collected volume for the comic means there’s likely to be a long wait until the next is released. The live-action adaptation isn’t scheduled for release until 2015, and the 50 lucky participants of the package tour that involves filming the movie have already departed.
Thankfully, there’s still one thing to look forward to in 2014, and that’s the first of two upcoming animated Attack on Titan compilation movies, which now has a release date.
According to a print advertisement, the first theatrical feature, titled Attack on Titan – The Crimson Arrows, will open on Saturday, November 22.
The film, which retells the story covered in the first 13 episodes of the Attack on Titan TV series, will screen at Tokyo’s Shinjuku Wald 9 and Osaka’s Burg 7, among other theatres.
Shinjuku Wald 9 is just a short walk from the RocketNews24 offices, so you can count on us to keep those pesky, pantless Titans in line.
For Attack on Titan’s ravenous fanbase, though, five months of waiting is still five too many, especially when the ad claims that the film’s key visuals are already finished. To help make it feel like you’re getting closer to actually seeing the movie, you can prepurchase tickets for 1,500 yen (US $14.85) starting June 21. Not only will this negate the need to stand in line, thus getting you into the theatre that much quicker, those who buy in advance will also receive a plastic file featuring an illustration by Kyoji Asano, character designer for the Attack on Titan anime.
The release date for the second animated film, subtitled The Wings of Freedom, is still listed as simply sometime in 2015.
