Smash hit anime Attack on Titan has a full cast of compelling human characters, but most of the merchandising and promotions that have come with the series’ success are centered on the remorseless, pantless Titans themselves. Whether it’s figurines, burgers, or even beauty products, there just seems to be more love shown for the series’ ostensible villains.
Now, though, comes a way for you to show your loyalty to humanity while also scoring a few style points, with a fashionable Attack on Titan bag and shawl.
Rest assured, the bag is no cheaply designed piece that will barely make it through a three-day anime convention before tearing at the seams, as it’s the work of the respected designers at Japanese bag and luggage maker master-piece. Anime merchandiser Animate is selling the item, crafted from patches of silver nylon and white leather, through 2 PM Works, the company’s animation-based fashion line which launched last year and has previously offered items inspired by Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, Creamy Mami, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
As we can see in the photos of the bag being modeled by a 165-centimeter class model, each edge features the Wings of Freedom, the insignia of the heroic Scout Corps, the branch of Attack on Titan’s military charged with venturing outside humanity’s protective walls in order to reclaim territory taken over by the Titans.
The product’s official name is the Attack on Titan Roll Boston 3-D Maneuver Gear Model, and as the photos show, the shoulder strap can be adjusted so that it hangs at the hip, in the same position as the 3-D Maneuver Gear worn by members of the Scout Corps. The bag not only shares its color with the high tech piece of military equipment, it also mimics the 3-D Maneuver Gear’s grapple launching function with an extendable key holder that stretches to 40 centimeters (15.7 inches).
Extra passionate Attack on Titan fans might be a bit miffed that the bag only features the mark of the Scout Corps, and gives no credit to the Garrison or Military Police, the other branches of the series’ military. For those truly committed to paying their respects to all of humanity’s defenders, 2 PM also has polyester stole, decorated with the emblems of all three branches, plus the Training Corps tasked with preparing new recruits for combat duty.
Both items are available through 2 PM Works’ website. The stole is available now for 8,190 yen (US $79.50). Preorders are being taken now for 23,100 yen ($223) The Attack on Titan Roll Boston 3-D Maneuver Gear Model, with your last chance to buy one being March 24. 2 PM Works says customers should receive their bags sometime between late May and early June, unfortunately too late for the Attack on Titan projection mapping event, but still early enough to spruce up their summer wardrobe.
