For a woman, breasts can be a double-edged sword. On one side they stand as a symbol of femininity, but on the other they can be the source of anxiety and self-consciousness.
Each woman has her own way of living with her breasts, be it accepting them for how they are or searching for ways to improve them. To each her own we say, but if you do choose some kind of augmentation procedure, please take the proper precautions and research it thoroughly.
But don’t take our word for it. We just happen to have a cautionary tale to illustrate this point. So sit back and enjoy: The tale of the woman who went in for larger breasts but instead got a bunch of pillowy black chest hair.
This story begins with a woman whom we’ll call Ms. Cao living in Zhejiang, China. In 2012 she was told that she had an abnormal growth in her mammary gland (atypical lobular hyperplasia) and went to a “breast center” for massage-based treatment. However, while there she learnt of an enlargement treatment that claimed to turn her B-cups to a pair of C-cups at least. For this regimen she paid 437,000 yuan (US$71,000).
And so she received weekly treatments for over a year until she began to notice some irritation to her skin and requested that the therapists change the oil to something imported from Japan. However, once the change was made, her chest size hadn’t improved but unusual hairs began to appear. And we don’t mean those single strands that sometimes pop up on a mole or something. Let’s hear it form Cao herself.
“Black hair grew on all the parts that they massaged. It was darker than my eyebrows and it felt fluffy and pillowy to the touch! It’s freaking awful!”
As you might imagine, upon discovery of the fluffy chest hair she quit the treatment and filed a complaint with marketplace regulators. During mediation with the regulators the breast center claimed that Cao had been taking medication to assist in getting pregnant which affected her hormones and caused the hair growth.
That seemed to be a plausible story, but there was still the suspicious timing of the chest hair’s appearance just after Cao requested the change in oils. Further deliberation revealed that the breast center had ordered the “Japanese” oils online from an unregulated seller.
Because they didn’t inform Cao about where the oils were purchased from, the center was found liable for her chest hair. The mediators ordered the center to refund her for the remaining sessions that she canceled valued at 200,000 yuan ($32,700). Cao, however, was left to foot the bill for her own chest hair removal.
So if you’re feeling self-conscious about your own chest size, just remember that it could always be worse. It could have a sweaty jungle of dark matted hair too.
