Like something in a badly written comedy sketch, the elderly man allegedly began chasing his dentist around the room, shouting: “I’ll make you taste the same pain!”
The wacky incident reportedly occurred on the morning of 23 January in the examination room of an unnamed 42-year-old male dentist. The suspect, 79-year-old Kosuke Matsuzaka from Tomisato, Chiba, stands accused of using a 30-centimeter (12-inch) metal rod with a pointed tip to threaten the dentist.
Despite being armed, Matsuzaka was quickly subdued by bystanders until the police could arrive to arrest him. The authorities are still investigating the incident but according to testimonies, Matsuzaka was receiving some new dentures but complained that they didn’t fit properly, causing him a great deal of physical discomfort.
Readers of the news in Japan had this to say:
“Maybe that guy was a retired biker.”
“Those two should start a comedy team.”
“Maybe the old guy had just finished watching Mad Max.”
“I guess the dentist struck a nerve.”
“Feisty old guy, isn’t he.”
“I blame all the violent video games and anime these elderly people are exposed to.”
While the details are still unclear, we can’t rule out the possibility that Matsuzaka had been the victim of dental malpractice and truly in an unbearable state of pain. Nevertheless, that is still no justification to attack a dentist with a metal bar.
▼ As we can see from this news report, Matsuzaka’s home had several metal bars readily available, causing some to wonder if Japan needs stricter metal bar control laws.
After all, despite the discomfort of your regular dentist visit, it is all done with the goal of making you a healthier person. It’s not like they enjoy hurting people…
Well, there was that guy in Little Shop of Horrors, but he got eaten by an alien plant, so we don’t have to worry about him any more… Say, I wonder what Rick Morranis is up to these days?
…
What were we talking about again?
